Steel Strapping and Metal Banding

Steel Strapping and Metal Banding

Steel strapping is one of the strongest strapping materials available in the industry. It is valued for its tensile strength, durability, and resistance to extreme temperatures. There are different types and dimensions of steel strapping suited for different types of applications.

Main Types of Steel Strapping

  • High-Tensile Steel Strapping: This is medium-carbon steel strap that is heat treated and cold rolled for heavy-duty applications. If you need extremely high shock resistance and tensile strength, high tensile strapping is the perfect choice.
  • Regular-Duty Steel Strapping: These steel strapping types have medium carbon and they are cold rolled to achieve high break strength. These steel straps are perfectly suited for light or medium duty applications. They are ideal for replacing heavy-gauge steel straps and reduce the cost of strapping and shipping.
  • Painted & Waxed Steel Strapping: This type of strapping is also made of steel material but it is painted and waxed for providing higher corrosion resistance. The finish is available with different types of steel strap sizes and it improves tension transmission around the corners of the load. Waxed steel straps are usually preferred with feedwheel based tensioners.

Strapping Dimensions

There are different strapping dimensions for steel straps. The different types of steel straps are commonly available in the following sizes:

  • Regular-Duty Steel Strapping: Width – 3/8”, 1/2”, 5/8” & 3/4”; Thickness – 0.0155”, 0.020”, 0.015”, and 0.023”.
  • High-Tensile Steel Strapping: Width – 1/2”, 5/8”, 3/4”, 1-1/4” & 2”; Thickness – 0.020”, 0.022”, 0.023”, 0.025”, 0.029”, 0.031”, 0.035” & 0.044”.

Stainless Steel Strapping

Stainless steel is another increasingly popular type of metal Banding material. It has higher resistance to extreme outdoor conditions. It can be used for strapping and shipping larger and heavier loads. Stainless steel is among the strongest materials used in the strapping industry.

The high weather-resistant properties of steel strapping types also make them the recommended choice of strapping material for loads that need to be transported through extreme conditions. These straps are also available in a wide range of widths and gauges to meet the different types of needs.

Galvanized Steel Strapping

Galvanized steel strapping is the perfect strapping material for applications where the load has to be stored for long term. These types of steel straps have a protective coating of zinc that prevents oxidation and corrosion. It is known for its extreme strength. However, this type of steel material is likely to stretch over time.
