Stainless Steel Strapping
SS or Stainless steel strapping is a highly versatile, modern strapping solution that offers many advantages. Among other benefits, SS strapping offers multiple joint methods. You can change the method of apply this strap based on the kind of application.
Why Stainless Steel Strapping?
Stainless steel strapping is among the strongest strapping available today. It has extremely high break-strength, which makes it the No.1 option for heavy shipments.
SS straps also have extremely high UV-resistance and weather-resistance. Even when used outdoors you will not have to worry about corrosion. This helps in reducing the cost of maintenance.
Applications of SS Strapping
As already mentioned, stainless steel strapping is highly versatile. It is used in most industries where medium-to-heavy duty strapping applications are involved. This includes the following:
- Shipping
- Oil and gas (including undersea applications)
- Underground drilling and underground cables
- Marine
- Industrial clamping
- Construction
- Public works including street signs and traffic signs
- Agriculture
- Signs / pole mounting
- Telecommunications
Steel, cord or plastic strapping cannot be used in highly corrosive environments. But SS steel is specifically designed to be used in more versatile environments than most other strapping materials. This includes in high temperature environments, underground or under water applications, chemical plants, and water treatment facilities.
Advantages of Using SS Strapping
- Stainless steel has much more resistance against UV rays, heat, salts, chemicals, high temperature and cold against other material including cord strapping.
- It is extremely strong
- Its corrosion-resistant property is especially beneficial for insulation applications
- SS strapping doesn’t cause as much damage as steel strapping to the load during packing. It is not as sharp.
- It is designed for strapping and securing heavy-duty loads and transportation of corrosive substances.
Types of Seals
There are different types of seals which have been designed for use with stainless steel strapping:
- Push-Type – These seals are also called push seals and are pre-threaded for tensioning. There is an overlapping flange for providing the strength. The strapping tools will push against the seal’s edge.
- Open Seal – The advantage with open seals is that they can be applied faster and are easier to use. You can place them over the strapping before or after the tension is applied.
- Thread-On Seals – These seal types are also called closed seals. In this case the strapping is pre-threaded through the seal before tensioning.
Usually, buckles are not used with this type of strapping.
Another big reason for using stainless steel strapping is that it is among the most recycled materials on the planet.
